The Assistant Geologist Temp will ensure the diligent capture and storage of data to enable the company to meet the standards required by the JORC or SAMREC or NI 43-101 Resource reporting standards, maintain at all times the high standards of Safety and Environmental Management expected by the company and to assist in ensuring the efficient operation of mineral exploration activities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES (MAIN DUTIES)
Exploration
- To assist the Technical Officer – IM in all aspects of his duties.
- To supervise permanent and casual personnel employed by ZCCM-IH Technical Directorate during field exploration operations.
- To supervise and oversee drilling operations and contractors.
- To carry out geological reconnaissance, geological mapping, and geochemical works as and when required.
- To survey, map, sample and record geological data on plans and the company GIS system.
- Planning and execution of QA/QC protocols.
- To log core and RC samples as and when required.
- To assist in geological and / or resource modelling and evaluation.
- To ensure all personnel employed by ZCCM-IH Technical Directorate and all contractors abide by the health and safety regulations instituted by ZCCM-IH.
- Any other duties required by the Technical Officer – IM/Project Geologist or Senior Management in support of their duties.
Reports
- Assist with the provision of information; and in the production of weekly/monthly/quarterly reports for the assigned project.
Maintenance of Data Base
- To ensure that documentation is systematically recorded and saved in relation to each respective activity – soil logs, DD logs, RC logs.
- To update database master files on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Maintain systematic records and a daily dairy of all activities relating to exploration activities.
Job Requirements
Professional Qualification:
- Grade 12 Certificate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mineral Science (Geology Major)
- Professional Membership with EIZ
- Member of the Geological Society of Zambia (GSZ).
Skill Specifications:
- Physically fit, able to work long hours in remote locations.
- Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Excellent proficiency in interpreting geological and geochemical data.
- An effective communicator with the ability to develop positive working relations within the organisation.
- Proficiency in Geological Software (ArcGIS / QGI
Other Attributes (Personality Traits
- Integrity.
- Attention to detail.
- Communicates effectively with the ability to develop positive working relations across all levels within the organisation.
Experience needed
Minimum Relevant Pre-Job Experience:
- For recent graduates, extensive knowledge on the Central African Copperbelt (CACB) and Ore Deposit Geology in general.
- For non-recent graduates, work experience in the Central African Copperbelt (CACB), including field exposure to mineral exploration-related works – Soil sampling, DD or RC.
