Responsible for leveling, shaping, and maintaining road surfaces, building sites, and mining haul roads to precise specifications.

Responsibilities or duties

Surface Preparation: Operates the motor grader to cut, fill, and grade dirt, gravel, or asphalt, preparing surfaces for paving or foundational work.

Site Maintenance: Performs finish grading, slope shaping, ditch cutting, and road crowning to precise tolerances.

Equipment Maintenance: Conducts daily checks (fluids, tires, blade condition), performs routine maintenance, and greases the machine.

Safety Compliance: Adheres to strict safety protocols, including checking for underground utilities, maintaining safe distances, and operating securely on slopes.

Grade Reading: Interprets survey stakes, blueprints, or GPS data to achieve required elevations

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Experience: Generally requires 2+ years of experience operating a motor grader in construction or mining environments.

Skills: Strong spatial awareness, attention to detail, and technical proficiency in using blade controls.

Certifications: Valid driver’s license, often with a heavy vehicle endorsement; specific site safety certifications (e.g., OH&S, OSHA).

Physical Stamina: Ability to perform manual tasks, such as changing cutting edges (blades) and inspecting equipment
