Background

Mayo Agro Services Ltd is seeking a dedicated Greenhouse Manager to lead daily operations at our Makeni Konga facility in Lusaka, Zambia. Position Overview

As Greenhouse Manager, you will oversee all aspects of greenhouse production to ensure the highest quality seedlings. You will manage irrigation and nutrition programs, safeguard plant health through biosecurity measures, and lead research trials on emerging seed varieties. This role also involves supervising labour, managing stock inputs, and providing technical advisory services to farmers.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage daily greenhouse operations including sowing, germination, fertigation, and hardening off seedlings.
• Develop and monitor nursery irrigation and nutrition schedules, ensuring optimal water quality (pH/EC) for seedling vigour.
• Implement sanitation protocols, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and rapid pest and disease control to maintain plant health and biosecurity.
• Coordinate variety trials, test new seed varieties, and analyze agronomic performance data.
• Supervise and schedule greenhouse labour, conduct daily briefings, and maintain high production standards.
• Oversee inventory management of seeds, growing media, trays, fertilisers, and crop protection chemicals to prevent shortages and reduce waste.
• Provide technical after-sales support including troubleshooting transplanting and early crop establishment challenges for clients.
• Maintain comprehensive records including batch documentation, germination logs, chemical applications, and input usage.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Agriculture with a focus on Horticulture or a related field, plus a minimum of two years practical experience in agriculture.
• Registered member of the Agricultural Institute of Zambia (AIZ) or eligible for immediate registration.
• Proven ability to diagnose and manage nursery pests and diseases, with sound knowledge of safe chemical handling and sprayer calibration.
• Hands-on experience with nursery irrigation systems, fertigation management, and preparation of nutrient solutions.

Essential Skills

• Strong leadership and supervisory capabilities to effectively manage and motivate teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data entry, inventory tracking, and reporting purposes.
• Excellent communication skills, including email correspondence and structured WhatsApp reporting.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license to support mobility requirements.
