Group Financial Controller

To strengthen our financial oversight and reporting, we seek technical assistance in recruiting and onboarding a Group Financial Controller (GFC). This role will support the CFO and oversee financial control processes across the group.

Objective

The objective of this engagement is to identify and onboard a qualified Group Financial Controller to enhance financial reporting, audit management, system integration, and donor reporting across Sweden, Zambia, and Malawi.

Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be based in Lusaka, Zambia and will be responsible for:

  • Audit Management: Coordinating and managing external audits across Sweden, Zambia, and Malawi, ensuring timely completion and compliance with local regulatory requirements.
  • Month-End Close & Financial Reporting: Overseeing the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial reporting across the Group.
  • Accounting Software Implementation & Integration: Leading the implementation of a new accounting system, ensuring smooth integration with the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) systems and alignment across all jurisdictions.
  • Intercompany Transactions & Consolidation: Managing intercompany reconciliations and financial consolidation across multiple entities.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Ensuring compliance with relevant tax, financial, and statutory regulations in Sweden, Zambia, and Malawi.
  • Process Improvement: Developing and implementing best practices in financial processes, controls, and reporting structures.
  • Grant and Technical Assistance Reporting: Managing and preparing grant reports, technical assistance reports, and other donor-related financial reporting requirements to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant submissions.
  • Investor and Board Reporting: Supporting the CFO in preparing detailed financial reports and presentations for investors and the board.

Expected Deliverables:

  • Defined monthly financial reporting framework for all jurisdictions.
  • Successful completion of external audits across the Group.
  • Full implementation and integration of the new accounting system.
  • Compliance with tax and financial regulations across all operating countries.
  • Regular, accurate, and timely grant and donor reporting in accordance with stakeholder requirements.
  • Streamlined processes for intercompany reconciliation and financial consolidation.

Required Expertise & Qualifications:

  • Professional qualifications (CPA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent).
  • Experience in multi-jurisdictional financial control, preferably in emerging markets.
  • Strong technical accounting, audit, and financial reporting skills.
  • Prior experience with accounting software implementation and integrations.
  • Familiarity with ZRA tax and accounting compliance is a plus.
  • Experience with grant, donor, and technical assistance financial reporting.
  • Ability to work across time zones and manage remote teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to all operational sites.
