Background

Makeni Institute Trust is seeking to recruit a qualified and highly motivated Handyman / Maintenance Technician to join our maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine maintenance and repairs of buildings, equipment, and facilities.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, including water supply and drainage systems.
  • Diagnose and repair basic electrical faults and installations.
  • Undertake mechanical fitting and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
  • Perform carpentry, painting, welding, and other general maintenance works as required.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance needs and prevent breakdowns.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment.
  • Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma, or Craft qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Engineering, Plumbing, General Maintenance, Building Maintenance, or a related technical field from a recognised institution.
  • At least 3 years' practical experience in building or facility maintenance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, metal fabrication, mechanical fitting, and general repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and maintenance manuals will be an added advantage.
  • A valid driver's licence will be an added advantage.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Honest, reliable, and self-motivated.
  • Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual work.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and respond effectively to emergencies.
