Kagem is seeking remarkable candidates to join the team, in the position of Head – Supply Chain Services

HEAD – SUPPLY CHAIN SERVICES (X 1)

Reports to: General Manager

Job Purpose

The HOD – Supply Chain Services provides strategic leadership and oversight of procurement, sourcing, warehousing, diesel management and logistics for Kagem Limited Mine. The role ensures uninterrupted mining operations through efficient, cost-effective and compliant supply chain processes, while fostering stakeholder trust, strong governance and continuous improvement.

Principle Accountabilities

  • Lead procurement planning, vendor selection and negotiations to achieve cost savings and risk mitigation.
  • Establish long-term supplier partnerships to secure continuity of supply and competitive advantage.
  • Oversee inventory management systems, stocks audits and reconciliation.
  • Maintain optimal stock levels to minimize stockouts and overstock.
  • Ensure safe storage, security and accurate reporting of stock and diesel.
  • Delivery budgetary targets through effective procurement and inventory cost management.
  • Track KPIs such as savings achieved, stock turnover and budget variance.
  • Report to GM and Finance Director on financial performance of supply chain functions.
  • Interface with departmental heads to establish material flow including releasing order, receiving materials, issues management and budget proposals.
  • Develop and implement end-to-end supply chain strategies aligned with KML’s business objectives.
  • Provide commercial expertise and advisory support to Gemfields projects within Zambia.
  • Drive governance, transparency and compliance across all supply chain functions.
  • Champion digitalization and process improvements (ERP, automation, reporting dashboards).
  • Define performance metrics for measurement, comparison, and evaluation of supplier performance factors, such as cost, quality and delivery. Identify and develop strategic suppliers / partnerships to support KML’s business goals and to ensure end user satisfaction of the materials being procured.
  • Fully embrace KML’s quality system to identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
  • Accountable to ensure that personal and Group HSE KPIs are set and achieved by all team members.
  • Correct operation and control of relevant KLM HSE Standards within their Department.
  • Ensuring clarity of HSEQ accountabilities and tasks for team members.
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of HSE Standards within their Sections and taking actions to correct deficiencies.
  • Authorizing sections specific plans and /or operating procedures (within limits of the approved KML HSE Standards).
  • Ensure continuous improvement in supplier delivery, supplier onboarding quality and cost.
  • Lead, mentor and develop a team across procurement, warehouse and logistics.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous learning.
  • Drive local talent development and succession planning.
  • Foster environment of adherence to due diligence and governance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/ supply chain management/ business administration or a related field.
  • 12-15 years’ experience in supply chain, procurement or logistics within mining or heavy industries.
  • Strong leadership, stakeholder management and team-building capabilities.
  • Proven negotiation and vendor management skills.
  • Expertise in ERP and inventory management systems.
  • High level of financial acumen, risk management and governance orientation.
  • Strong Communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical and evaluation skills.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and ERP systems.
  • Hands on experience with procurement management software and databases.
  • Paid up member of Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS/CIPS).

The company provides single status accommodation at the mine site.
