Job Description

Reporting to the Country Director (of the hosting country), the Head of Internal Control is to support the implementation of Plan International-Southern Africa’s strategy by providing leadership and coordination of Risk, Internal Control and Compliance, Internal Audit and Fraud for the four SALT countries. The incumbent will supervise and conduct program compliance and operational audits, lead the follow-up effort for past findings and review audit reports. The incumbent will also supervise and conduct investigations, as needed.

Key accountabilities

  1. Strategic Risk Planning and Policy.
  2. Internal Controls and Compliance.
  3. Fraud Investigation.
  4. External Audits.
  5. Risk Management.
  6. Safeguarding Children and Young People (Safeguarding) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI).

The individual

Desired skills and competencies for the role;

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area of accounting, auditing or Business administration or equivalent Internal Audit qualification (CPA, ACCA, CA, etc.) and/or other relevant professional certification.
  • Be a qualified Internal Auditor (IIA)
  • At least 8 years recent professional experience in Internal Audit, Accounting, Risk management or Fraud Investigation.
  • Demonstrable experience at a senior level, NGO sector is preferable.
  • Experience of managing teams, as well as indirect relationships
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international and matrix management environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
