Role Summary for Health and Nutrition Officer Jobs in Nchelenge

The Health and Nutrition Officer will oversee the implementation of nutrition and health programs, including management of acute malnutrition, MIYCAN, and integrated case management of childhood illnesses. This role involves close collaboration with WASH and Food Security officers to ensure multi-sectoral integration. The officer will supervise daily activities, liaise directly with communities, and support capacity building for health workers, volunteers, and district health teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Integrate malnutrition management within health services, implement nutrition programs such as MAMi, BFHI, MIYCAN, ICCM, and SBCC at facility and community levels, and strengthen district health system capacity.
  • Capacity Building: Organize and supervise training and mentorship for health workers, VHTs, and care groups, ensuring availability of development tools and facilitating regular joint meetings.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Develop and adhere to work plans, participate in project reviews and surveys, maintain databases for community health workers, and manage program accountability and reporting.
  • Staff Supervision: Engage and support staff performance, develop activity plans, and identify training needs.
  • Coordination and Representation: Mobilize community participation, attend internal and external meetings, and represent the program in inter-agency forums.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (honors) in Human Nutrition.
  • Minimum of two years’ continuous experience in implementing nutrition and health activities.
  • Experience working in multi-sectoral programs is an advantage.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently under pressure.
  • Excellent reporting and IT skills.
  • Knowledge of the local area, refugee issues, and ability to speak local languages.
  • Valid motorcycle riding license and ability to ride a motorcycle.

Working Conditions and Additional Information

This role requires regular attendance at health facilities and community settings, with flexibility to work outside normal hours and weekends as needed. The position involves exposure to challenging environments and potential security risks. Action Against Hunger is committed to gender equality, zero tolerance for abuse, and fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace.
