Position Overview
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Human Resources Director to lead the HR function in Zambia. Reporting directly to the Vice Regional Managing Director, the successful candidate will develop and execute human resources strategies aligned with the company’s business objectives, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure compliance with local labor laws. This role is critical to supporting growth and operational excellence in the Zambian market.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
Develop and implement comprehensive HR strategies that align with regional and global business goals, focusing on talent acquisition, retention, and organizational development.
Partner with senior leadership to identify workforce needs, forecast talent gaps, and design succession plans for key positions.
Drive organizational change initiatives, including restructuring, cultural integration, and performance management system optimization.
Talent Acquisition and Development
Oversee end-to-end recruitment processes for all levels, ensuring timely hiring of qualified candidates while maintaining diversity and inclusion standards.
Design and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills, leadership capabilities, and career progression.
Establish mentorship and coaching frameworks to support employee growth and engagement.
Employee Relations and Compliance
Develop and administer performance management systems to drive accountability, feedback, and continuous improvement.
Design competitive compensation and benefits packages that align with local market standards and support employee retention.
Recognize and reward high-performing employees through incentive programs and recognition initiatives.
HR Operations and Analytics
Streamline HR operations, including payroll administration, employee records management, and HRIS optimization, to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
Leverage HR analytics to track key metrics such as turnover rate, time-to-hire, and employee engagement, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
Ensure confidentiality and data protection of employee information in compliance with relevant regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
A master’s degree or professional certification such as SHRM-SCP or CIPD is highly desirable.
Minimum 8 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role such as HR Director or Head of HR.
Proven experience working in Zambia or Southern Africa, with in-depth knowledge of local labor laws, cultural nuances, and market practices.
Track record of developing and executing HR strategies that drive business results, including talent acquisition, organizational development, and change management.
Skills and Competencies
Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to align HR initiatives with organizational goals.
Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a focus on building high-performing teams and fostering employee engagement.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with data-driven decision-making is a plus.
Demonstrated ability to navigate complex labor relations and compliance issues in a multi-cultural environment.
Language
Fluency in English, written and verbal, is required. Knowledge of local languages such as Bemba or Nyanja is an advantage.
