About Us:
Emerging Cooking Solutions (Zambia) Limited, trading as SupaMoto, is a leader in the Advanced Biomass Cooking sector, committed to environmental sustainability and reducing deforestation. As a Zambian/Swedish joint venture, we develop clean-burning modern cookstoves that utilize renewable cooking fuel pellets. Our locally produced pellets offer an affordable and eco-friendly alternative to charcoal, helping to combat deforestation and provide sustainable energy solutions.
Our IT team keeps the technology behind our operations – from office systems to the IoT infrastructure embedded in our products – running reliably and securely. We are looking for a hands-on and dependable IT Support Intern to maintain our hardware and network infrastructure and keep our teams and technology connected.
Position Overview:
The IT Support Intern will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware, networks, and peripheral devices across SupaMoto's offices and field sites. This role has a strong technical bias toward hardware diagnostics, network administration, and infrastructure reliability, and will also provide day-to-day IT support to staff and assist with connectivity for our IoT technology.
This role is ideal for a technically skilled, practical problem-solver with a strong grounding in networking and hardware who takes ownership of issues end-to-end and is comfortable working independently.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Network Infrastructure Management
- Install, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points across office and field locations.
- Monitor network performance and uptime, proactively identifying and resolving connectivity issues.
- Manage network security fundamentals, including firewall rules, VPN access, and Wi-Fi configuration.
- Maintain network documentation, including topology diagrams, IP addressing schemes, and equipment configurations.
- Support connectivity and network configuration for IoT-enabled devices and related field devices, working closely with the R&D team.
- Troubleshoot data transmission and connectivity issues between field devices and central systems.
- Set up, configure, and maintain VoIP systems, including handsets, PBX platforms, and SIP trunk connections.
- Troubleshoot call quality issues (latency, jitter, dropped calls) and resolve VoIP connectivity problems across office and field locations.
2. Hardware Support & Maintenance
- Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and other office hardware and peripherals.
- Diagnose and repair hardware faults as needed.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of IT hardware assets, tracking assignment, condition, and warranty status.
- Set up and decommission workstations for new and departing staff, ensuring secure handling of equipment and data.
3. Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Serve as the first point of contact for staff IT support requests, resolving hardware, network, and basic software issues promptly.
- Maintain a helpdesk ticketing log, tracking issues from report through resolution.
- Escalate complex issues to external vendors or specialist partners where required, and follow through to resolution.
- Provide basic user training on hardware use, network etiquette, and IT best practices.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for hardware configurations, network setups, and support procedures.
- Prepare regular reports on support ticket trends, recurring issues, and infrastructure health.
- Recommend and document infrastructure improvements to management based on observed patterns.
- Ensure all IT support activity is logged accurately for audit and continuity purposes.
Skills & Competencies Required:
- Strong working knowledge of computer hardware diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Practical, hands-on problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to fault-finding.
- Good documentation and communication skills, able to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
- Ability to work independently and manage support requests across multiple sites.
- Team-oriented attitude, capable of collaborating with other technical teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Networking, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
