Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Laboratory Technician – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Lumwana Expansion Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Responsibilities or duties

Reporting to the Medical Doctor – LEP, you will be responsible for providing and ensuring the optimal health of all project employees, contractors, and their dependents.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct pathological laboratory procedures as required by clinic and occupational health staff, including specimen collection, processing, analysis, and the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in external quality assessment (EQA) programmes and implement internal quality control (IQC) measures to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Manage laboratory supplies and consumables, maintain inventory levels, and ensure proper control of laboratory data, documentation, and records.
  • Prepare, standardise, and maintain laboratory reagents in accordance with established protocols and quality standards.
  • Accountable for the completion of all tasks identified in the management Operating System (MOS) to the specified quality and timelines as assigned to the role.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.
  • Promote and comply with the company’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
  • Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
  • Develop continuous improvement targets for the function and drive and measure the achievements of these targets.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of up-to-date job procedures for all tasks performed within the team.

Qualifications or requirements 

Grade 12 certificate

Diploma in Biomedical Science

Experience needed

  • Minimum Three (3) years’ working experience.
  • Paid up member of the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ)
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
