About the role

The Learning Support Teacher will serve the whole school, supporting learners from Grades 1-6 and Forms 1-5. The successful candidate will work with teachers, school leaders, learners and parents to identify learning needs and provide suitable support.

Key responsibilities

  • Help identify learners who may need additional learning support.
  • Conduct appropriate screening and classroom observations.
  • Plan and provide individual and small-group support.
  • Develop and monitor individual education plans where required.
  • Support teachers in adapting lessons, activities and assessments.
  • Provide in-class support and focused intervention outside the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential learner-support records.
  • Monitor learner progress and adjust support where necessary.
  • Communicate with parents about identified needs, support plans and progress.
  • Work with outside specialists where assessment or additional support is required.
  • Help establish inclusive practices across the school.
  • Support arrangements for learners who need additional help during assessments and examinations.

The person we are looking for

We are looking for a skilled and caring Special Education teacher who believes that learners should receive the support they need to participate and make progress.

  • Strong knowledge of special and inclusive education.
  • The ability to identify and respond to different learning needs.
  • Experience planning and delivering focused learning interventions.
  • The ability to work with learners across different ages and school phases.
  • Patience, empathy and high expectations for every learner.
  • Strong communication and record-keeping skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with teachers, parents and outside specialists.
  • Integrity, discretion, sound judgement and commitment to safeguarding children.
  • Warmth, approachability and a good sense of humour.
  • Genuine support for the school's academic and football model.

Qualifications and experience

  • A bachelor's degree in special education.
  • Valid and current Teaching Council of Zambia registration.
  • Strong knowledge of the Zambian curriculum.
  • Practical knowledge of learner screening, individual education plans and classroom support.

Experience supporting learners across both primary and secondary education will be an advantage. Experience in a Cambridge school will also be an advantage but is not required.

Competitive remuneration is on offer. The appointment will be made on a 3-year contract.
