LEGAL OFFICER – TAZARA PROJECT
China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation is inviting suitably qualified, experienced, and self-motivated individuals to apply for the position of Legal Officer under the TAZARA Project.
Position: Legal Officer (1)
Duty Station: Lusaka, Zambia
Reports To: Project Manager / Legal Department
Job Purpose
The Legal Officer will provide legal support and guidance to the TAZARA Project team, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, contractual obligations, and corporate policies. The successful candidate will assist in managing legal risks associated with project operations and contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and interpret contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Provide legal advice on project-related matters, including labor, commercial, and regulatory issues.
- Ensure compliance with Zambian laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Support contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Liaise with external legal counsel, government agencies, and regulatory authorities when required.
- Handle dispute resolution and assist in litigation matters involving the project.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions and reports.
- Monitor changes in legislation affecting project operations.
- Maintain proper legal records and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a recognized institution.
- Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Zambia with a valid practicing certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience, preferably in construction, infrastructure, or project environments.
- Strong knowledge of contract law, labor law, and corporate legal practice.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
