Role Overview and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Machining Senior Supervisor, the Remanufacturing Machinist will perform precision machining, dimensional restoration, inspection, and remanufacturing of mining equipment components. You will work with both conventional and CNC machine tools to produce and restore parts according to OEM specifications and approved remanufacturing standards.
- Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools, performing turning, boring, milling, drilling, tapping, reaming, grinding, and threading operations.
- Machine components to OEM tolerances, restoring worn surfaces and manufacturing replacement parts as needed.
- Inspect components for wear, damage, distortion, cracks, and dimensional deviations to determine repair requirements.
- Support component rebuild teams by machining hydraulic, drive-train, structural, and mechanical system parts.
- Interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and technical specifications to select tooling and machining parameters.
- Conduct dimensional inspections before, during, and after machining using precision measuring instruments to ensure quality compliance.
- Maintain machine tools, fixtures, tooling, and measuring equipment, supporting preventive maintenance and reporting defects.
- Adhere strictly to HCM, OEM, and statutory safety and environmental standards, participating in safety meetings and maintaining workshop housekeeping.
- Complete machining reports and maintain component traceability, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience for Machinist Jobs in Lusaka
Candidates must possess a full Grade 12 Certificate and a Craft Certificate in Machining, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related trade. A Technician Certificate (NQF 5) is advantageous. Valid EIZ membership and ZAQA-validated qualifications are required.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in machining and component repair, including operation of lathes, milling, boring, and drilling machines.
- Strong technical knowledge of precision machining, dimensional control, and component rebuilding.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality assurance, and environmental compliance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills related to wear analysis and component recovery.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with rebuild technicians, welders, engineers, and inspectors.
