Lumwana Mining Company is seeking to recruit a highly committed individual for the position of Management Accountant (Short Term) to join the versatile Commercial Department team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you will be responsible for strengthening cost control mechanisms, enhancing financial visibility, and driving continuous improvement in cost tracking and overall business efficiency through effective budget management, performance monitoring, and variance analysis.

Your Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

  • Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly cost reports covering all aspects of the organization’s financial performance for Site Management and Corporate Office review.
  • Analyze cost reports and financial data to ensure effective cost monitoring, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions to address unfavorable trends.
  • Process month-end financial activities accurately and within required timelines to ensure integrity and completeness of financial records.
  • Manage the capital expenditure (CAPEX) process from AFE (Authority for Expenditure) preparation through to project completion, ensuring expenditures remain within approved budgets, comply with approved timelines, and adhere to company capital management policies.
  • Assist in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Fixed Asset Register through proper recording, reconciliation, and verification of assets.
  • Support the development, implementation, and ongoing review of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with company standards and statutory requirements.
  • Safeguard company assets by ensuring robust internal financial controls and compliance with established asset protection procedures.
  • Continuously monitor operational and capital costs, proactively identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives to improve procurement efficiency and overall financial performance.
  • Ensure appropriate systems, procedures, and workforce capability are in place to achieve legal compliance, prevent incidents, and support environmentally sustainable operations.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external auditors, ensuring audit requirements are met and audit findings are addressed promptly and appropriately.
  • Collaborate with operational teams and supervisors to support achievement of production and cost targets in line with daily, weekly, monthly, and annual mining plans.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Degree in Accounting or a recognized professional qualification such as full ACCA or CIMA Certification.
  • Full membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in a senior commercial or accounting role, preferably within the mining sector.
  • Sound understanding and practical experience in accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, cost control, and contract management.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience using integrated management systems and recognized accounting or ERP software such as SAP, Sage, Pastel, QuickBooks, Oracle, or similar financial management systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and the ability to work effectively in diverse environments, with a commitment to mentoring, developing subordinates, and transferring technical and operational knowledge.
