Job description:

The Mechanical Coach Crushing will coach and develop FQM-Kansanshi Process Plant Artisans; enhancing their technical skills and on the job behavior’s to achieve a culture of high quality work and efficiency in the department. The coach will provide a mix of ‘on the job’ coaching and support to Artisans, and design and delivery of more formal training modules as required. This role requires the delivery of a continuous assessment processes to enable Artisans to understand their progress. The coach will lead with a People First mindset and raise learner’s aspirations through their passion for the subject and method of interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Deliver coaching and training according to the needs identified in the Crushing Sections of the engineering department. ‘On the job’ coaching will be a primary method used in the department along with more formal training modules supported in collaboration with KMP Training school.
    • Ability to role model good practice and create a continuous learning environment; through the use of coaching methodologies and various instructional techniques identified via training needs assessments or observations
    • Use effective listening, assertiveness and questioning to support learners to engage with their learning plans and with assessment criteria and processes
    • Champion quality and provide visible leadership ‘on-the-floor’ in FQM operations
    • Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps; create and deliver suitable interventions to address these gaps and then follow up to assess impact
    • Identify high potential Artisans with ability and aspiration to progress to more senior roles and support their development
    • Design and complete assessments against the FQM Proficiency Framework. Occasionally act as an independent assessor for other FQM operations within Zambia
    • Adhere to and champion safe working procedures for all work areas
    • Record interventions, actions assigned and progress using the learning management tools provided by the company.
    • Frequently evaluate and report on the impact and effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives; make improvements as needed
    • Prepare supporting material for the delivery of coaching and training.
    • Recognize and celebrate achievements and success in the team; provide candid feedback, engage at all levels and lead with a People First mindset
    • Observe and provide coaching and feedback to Senior Supervisors/Coordinators and Supervisors on opportunities to improve their supervisory skills. Create a coaching culture across the organization and upskill others in coaching methodologies
    • Collaborate with training department to define training needs based on assessments completed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Full Grade Twelve (G12) school certificate.
  • Minimum of Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or Trade Certificate equivalent.
  • OEM certification to Level 3/4 will be an added advantage
  • Valid EIZ license.
  • Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
  • Demonstrable coaching experience (or coaching certification) in upskilling a workforce and/or deployment and execution of a coaching programme within an organization
  • A minimum of 10-15 years’ maintenance experience in fixed plant maintenance within mining operations. The ideal candidate will have experience across all Crushing major equipment types, such as Gyratory Crushers, Jaw Crushers, Portable Crushers, Cone Pebble Crushers, Chute wear package selection and installation, Conveyor belts splicing and maintenance, Lubrication/Hydraulic packs and Oils, Gearboxes, Electric and Hydraulic Drives, Material Feeders e.g Trommel Screens, Vibrating screen, Air Compressors and Blowers, Centrifugal Pumps, Welding methods and electrode selections; bolt torque setting, V-Belt alignment, Shaft alignment and Can establish a mechanical diagnosis (Bearing deterioration, poor gear assembly, Slide shoe bearing adjustment / alignment, motor alignment)
  • Able to interpret the results of vibration analysis, experience with Condition based maintenance and Oil Sample Analysis
  • Experience working for an OEM is preferred (or similar role that has given deep experience of equipment)
  • Experience with standard maintenance reliability processes – five whys, FMECA etc.
