Key Responsibilities for Mine Captain Drill and Blast Jobs in Maamba

Coordinate all aspects of blast preparation including drilling readiness, charging, stemming, tie-in, guarding, clearance, and post-blast release.

Ensure all blast areas conform to approved designs and drilling patterns prior to execution.

Enforce strict compliance with explosives control measures, exclusion zones, risk assessments, and statutory safety requirements.

Identify, halt, and escalate any unsafe work practices, unauthorized access, misfires, or deviations from blast designs.

Manage blast schedules and coordinate area release to minimize production delays.

Oversee drilling and blasting contractors as well as blast-support crews to ensure operational efficiency.

Prepare comprehensive reports on blast readiness, execution, delays, and handovers.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Grade 12 Certificate is required.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Planning, Geology, or related fields is preferred.

Possession of a valid Blasting Licence is mandatory.

Applicants must be registered and paid-up members of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or the Explosives Regulatory Board (ERB).

A valid driver’s licence is advantageous.

At least 5 years of relevant experience in open-pit mining operations, with significant exposure to drill-and-blast execution.

2 to 3 years’ experience in coordinating drill-and-blast crews, contractors, or shift teams.

Hands-on experience in blast preparation, exclusion zone management, and post-blast inspection is essential.

Experience in coal mining, bulk commodity, or open-cast mining operations will be considered a strong asset.
