Background

Zamfluorspar limited is one of the leading mining company in Zambia with its core activities in the mining and exploration of fluorite minerals.

The company was incorporated on the 10th of February 2015. The Fluorspar (calcium fluoride) produced in Zambia by Zamfluorspar, is largely exported to major industrial markets for use in steel, aluminum, and chemical industries. Key destination countries include the Netherlands, Italy, the United States, China, India, and regional partners like Lesotho.The mining operations are done in the southern part of Zambia in Siavonga Sianyolo Area.

The Company is now Recruiting for the following position Mine Safety Officer.

The Company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill this vacancy.

Responsibilities

The ideal and prospective candidate to fill this vacancy will ensure compliance with theMine Health and Safety Actby conducting underground/surface risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations. You will promote safety awareness, enforce PPE usage, and develop emergency response plans. Key roles involve training, reporting to management, and maintaining operational safety standards.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Safety-conscious attitude: The ability to prioritize safety above all else is paramount.
  • Physical fitness: The role requires physical strength, stamina, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions..
  • Problem-solving skills: The ability to deal with unforeseen obstacles and hazards, such as misfires or changing ground conditions.
  • Safety Compliance & Audits: Monitor and assess compliance with safety management systems, conducting regular inspections, and audits.
  • Risk Management: Conduct hazard identification, risk assessments, and implement corrective actions for incident prevention.
  • Training & Awareness: Deliver safety inductions and training to workers, promoting a safe working culture.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and maintain rescue plans and emergency procedures.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure adherence to Zambian mining regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on safety performance, trends, and incidents for management.

Only Qualifying and competent prospective candidates possessing these Qualifications are encouraged to apply:

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • Experience: 3–6 years of experience in a mining or industrial environment.
  • Certifications: Valid Silicosis certificate, First Aid certification, and membership with the Occupational Health and Safety Institute (OHSI).
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of mine safety laws, proficiency in MS Office, excellent communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Physical: Physically and medically fit for mining operations.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act by conducting underground/surface risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Promote safety awareness.
