Background
China Copper Mines Limited (CCM) was established in 2010 as a large-scale mining company by privately owned groups in the Republic of Zambia. The company is located in Fitula Mimbula, Chingola District, Copperbelt Province. CCM’s operations span mineral resource exploration, mining, hydrometallurgy, sulfuric acid production, mineral trading, and mining investments. To support and sustain its operations, CCM is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:
Job Summary
Responsible for conducting chemical and mineralogical analysis of ore and rock samples to determine composition, grade, and quality. Prepares samples, operates laboratory equipment such as X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), and titration systems, and compiles accurate data and reports to support mining and production decisions. Ensures all testing follows safety and quality control procedures.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Collect and prepare ore, soil, water, and other environmental samples from various locations on the mine site
- Conduct chemical analyses on samples to determine mineral content, grade, and presence of contaminants
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometers (AAS), ICP, XRF, and wet chemistry instruments
- Perform quality control tests to ensure accuracy and consistency in analytical results
- Record, interpret, and report test results to metallurgists, geologists, and plant operators
- Monitor chemical processes in mineral extraction (e.g., leaching, flotation) and provide feedback for process optimization
- Maintain detailed records of lab procedures, results, and calibration logs for audits and compliance
- Adhere strictly to safety, environmental, and laboratory protocols in handling hazardous chemicals and samples
- Assist in developing or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes
- Support environmental monitoring programs by analyzing samples for pollutants or regulatory compliance
Job Requirements:
- Grade 12 certificate
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience is required
- Valid silicosis Certificate
