Role Overview

The Operations and Impact Manager is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the organization’s strategic direction, operational efficiency, and impact delivery. This role bridges strategic program management with day-to-day operational oversight to ensure that all activities are aligned with our mission and adaptive to emerging conservation challenges.

You will lead the development of a mission-driven, data-informed operational framework with clearly defined targets and outcomes. In addition, you will play a key role in managing institutional relationships, especially with our German network, engaging with partners and donors, and contributing to high-level organizational and donor reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic oversight and ensure effective implementation across all organizational programs.
  • Lead operational planning, monitoring, and adaptive management processes to improve efficiency and impact.
  • Oversee the development and execution of Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) and impact measurement systems.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with key donors, research institutions, and conservation partners.
  • Contribute to donor reporting, proposal development, and strategic communication.
  • Support leadership in aligning project activities with the organization’s long-term goals and values.

Requirements

  • Education: MSc (or equivalent) in ecology, conservation biology, environmental management, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience in the conservation sector in a management or senior operational role, including at least 2 years in Monitoring & Evaluation or impact assessment.
  • Language Skills: Native-level German (for interacting with our network of German donors, organizations and institutions) and fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Sector Knowledge: Demonstrated experience engaging with the German conservation landscape (e.g., donors, NGOs, research institutions).
  • Competencies:
    • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with data management, GIS tools and R-Studio is an asset.
  • Other: Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
