Role Description
KGL invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position:
PRINCIPAL ENGINEER – CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE & DAM SAFETY
REPORTING TO: MAINTENANCE MANAGER
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Chikankata, Southern Province, Zambia. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensure the performance of Civil Infrastructure meets the Corporation’s goals/objectives/ Annual Maintenance Plan and that all Civil Infrastructure maintenance activities are safe, efficient, and reliable.
- Provide engineering support for analysing the performance of Civil Infrastructure and resolution of defects on the infrastructure and provide technical oversight on hydrology/hydraulic analysis and any changes in floodplain mapping and studies.
- Lead the team in achieving the departmental objectives, monitoring, and reporting on progress on an ongoing basis. Ensure all maintenance objectives are completed on time and within budget/forecast.
- Conduct inspections of all civil works according to schedule and oversee the surveillance and monitoring program to maintain Dam Safety.
- Manage the timely review, and any necessary follow-up action as required, of all surveillance and monitoring datasets to assure the safety of project civil works.
- Provide technical support on any road or building issues, as well as slope stability.
- Participate in Dam Safety inspection by regulatory authorities.
- Participate in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of maintenance programs for all civil works associated with the generating stations and infrastructure.
- Prepare estimates for budgetary requirements.
- Prepare Engineering Reports, Capital Project Justifications, Special Maintenance Work Order Reports, specifications, and initiate purchases.
- Update, develop, and recommend maintenance procedures.
- Participate actively and positively in the development and achievement of the team’s goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from a university of recognized standing, master’s in project management will be an added advantage
- A minimum of eight (8) years of experience related to the design, construction, and operation of access roads, dams, tunnels, and hydropower plant and three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Demonstrated leadership skills combined with excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record as a team player are essential.
- Possess good working knowledge of plant operations processes and practices and have the ability to take a leadership role in resolving related operational issues.
- Demonstrated skills and experience in solving complex and sensitive matters courteously and discretely, consistent with best operating principles.
- Must be a member of EIZ
- Must be a Registered Engineer (REng)
Tenure of Employment
An initial fixed term contract of three (3) years.
