About the Role

Zambia has one of the most acute psychiatric workforce shortages on the continent. At Bonse Hub, we believe technology and the right people can close that gap — fast. We are looking for a dedicated, culturally attuned consultant psychiatrist to anchor our Bonse Wellness clinical team, leading psychiatric assessments, medication management, and complex case oversight across both our physical and digital care pathways. This is a rare opportunity to practise psychiatry at genuine scale — combining the depth of one-on-one clinical care with the reach of a digital health platform serving thousands.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning for outpatient and virtual clients
  • Prescribe and manage pharmacological treatment plans, monitoring client progress and adjusting care as needed
  • Provide clinical supervision and oversight to the Bonse Wellness psychology and counselling team
  • Lead complex and high-risk case reviews, ensuring appropriate escalation pathways and safeguarding protocols are in place
  • Deliver psychiatric consultations through both in-person clinics and our Bonse Wellness telehealth platform
  • Collaborate with our corporate wellness programme to identify and support employees presenting with moderate-to-severe mental health conditions
  • Contribute to clinical governance — helping establish protocols, care pathways, and quality standards across the platform
  • Participate in mental health advocacy, public awareness campaigns, and policy discussions to advance Zambia's psychiatric landscape
  • Support the integration of psychiatry into our Bonse Young Minds school programme through training and clinical guidance

What We're Looking For

  • MBChB or equivalent medical degree with specialist qualification in Psychiatry (MMed Psychiatry or equivalent)
  • Full registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and a valid practising certificate
  • Minimum 3 years of post-specialist clinical experience in psychiatry
  • Proven experience managing a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, psychosis, anxiety disorders, and substance use
  • Demonstrated ability to work in resource-constrained settings with adaptability and clinical creativity
  • Experience providing or willingness to deliver care through telehealth and digital mental health platforms
  • Strong leadership presence — able to mentor, guide, and inspire a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Deep respect for the cultural, social, and economic realities shaping mental health in Zambia and across Africa
  • Collaborative, mission-driven mindset with genuine passion for expanding psychiatric access at scale

Bonus

  • Sub-specialty interest or training in child and adolescent psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, or addiction psychiatry
  • Experience in occupational or workplace mental health settings
  • Published research or academic contributions in psychiatry or African mental health
  • Interest in health technology and its application to scaling psychiatric services across the continent

Why Bonse Hub?

  • Step into one of the most impactful psychiatric roles in Zambia — with the platform and team to match your ambition
  • Lead and shape an integrated clinical team of psychologists, counsellors, and nutritionists working under one wellness ecosystem
  • Extend your clinical reach through our telehealth platform — serving clients across Zambia and eventually across other African countries
  • Flexible hybrid engagement model — we are open to full-time and part-time arrangements for the right candidate
  • Competitive remuneration package commensurate with your seniority and the critical nature of this role
  • Be part of a proudly Zambian company that is writing a new chapter for mental healthcare on the continent
