About the Role

Zambia has over 5 million people living with untreated mental health challenges — and far too few professionals meeting that need. At Bonse Hub, we're changing that. We're looking for a compassionate, culturally grounded psychosocial counsellor to join our Bonse Wellness team and be a frontline force for healing in communities, workplaces, and schools. If you believe everyone deserves someone to talk to — and that support should feel familiar, not foreign — this role was made for you.

What You'll Do

  • Provide individual and group psychosocial counselling sessions — both in person and through our Bonse Wellness digital platform
  • Support clients navigating grief, trauma, stress, relationship challenges, workplace pressure, and life transitions
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments using our culturally adapted Root Cause Assessment Tool
  • Deliver mental health awareness sessions in corporate settings as part of our workplace wellness programmes
  • Work alongside our clinical psychologist to provide stepped-care support — referring and escalating cases appropriately
  • Engage with schools and youth groups under the Bonse Young Minds programme, providing early psychosocial support
  • Champion mental health destigmatisation through community outreach, advocacy events, and awareness campaigns
  • Maintain thorough, confidential case records in accordance with ethical and data protection standards

What We're Looking For

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related psychosocial discipline
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) or a relevant professional body, or eligible to register
  • Minimum 5 years of counselling or psychosocial support experience in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals through trauma, grief, mental health challenges, or psychosocial distress
  • Strong grasp of Zambian cultural contexts, community dynamics, and Ubuntu-centred approaches to care
  • Comfortable working with diverse client groups — individuals, families, youth, and corporate employees
  • Warm, non-judgmental, and deeply empathetic — with the resilience to hold space for others while maintaining your own wellbeing
  • Energetic, adaptable, and excited by the pace and purpose of a growing health tech startup

Bonus

  • Experience in school-based or youth counselling programmes
  • Background in gender-based violence (GBV) support, HIV psychosocial care, or community mental health
  • Familiarity with digital mental health tools, telehealth platforms, or online support modalities
  • Training in specific therapeutic modalities such as CBT, solution-focused therapy, or narrative therapy
  • Multilingual — fluency in Bemba, Nyanja, or other local languages is a strong advantage
  • Provide individual and group psychosocial counselling sessions — both in person and through our Bonse Wellness digital platform
  • Support clients navigating grief, trauma, stress, relationship challenges, workplace pressure, and life transitions
