Nanga Farms Limited is a large, irrigated sugarcane estate situated 25Km Northeast of Mazabuka in the Southern Province of Zambia. The company is a subsidiary of Zambia Sugar Plc and a part of the ABF Sugar Group. Its main activities are the cultivation of 2,860 hectares of sugarcane and the rearing of 1,400 head of cattle. The company now invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of:
Ranch Field Supervisor x1 – B1
Fixed Term Contract Role Reporting to – Ranch Supervisor
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Supervise and direct field workers and machine operators to achieve daily production targets.
- Oversee the care, feeding, and health monitoring of livestock.
- Monitor labour performance, attendance, and discipline; escalate issues as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, inputs used, labour hours, and daily outputs.
- Enforce adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Report any delays, equipment malfunctions, or operational challenges to the Ranch Supervisor.
- Assist in training and orienting new workers on work procedures and safety protocols.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and security of tools, machinery, and other farm equipment.
- Act as the liaison between field workers and management, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
- Monitor cattle for signs of illness or injury and take appropriate action.
- Carry out regular inspections of paddocks to assess grazing status.
- Recommend and coordinate cattle movement based on pasture availability.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of cattle numbers, health status, feeding schedules, and paddock allocations.
- Ensure cleanliness of the paddocks, feeding areas, and water points.
- Carry out branding, dipping, deworming, vaccinations, and other livestock health routines.
- Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor from time to time
Knowledge, Skills and Competences Required
- Team leadership with the ability to supervise, delegate tasks, and train new team members
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma/Certificate in Animal husbandry, Agriculture or Animal science.
- Cattle Ranching experience of at least 3 years.
- Passion and love for cattle/livestock.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within an agricultural environment is a strong advantage
