The LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (LAMU) is a privately owned University, accredited by the Higher Education Authority under the Higher Education Amendment Act No. 23 of 2021 to provide Higher Education in Medical Education. LAMU is regulated by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). Lusaka Apex Medical University is therefore looking for a mature, proactive, and highly motivated and result oriented Zambian with high degree of credibility to fill the following position:
Job Purpose:
To provide nursing care (involving the screening and administering treatment) to patients at the apex diagnostic Clinic.
Responsibilities or duties
- Opens files for new cases in respect of patients, issues cards, pulls out cards for existing members and attach to file of patient.
- Screens out-patients checking temperature, blood pressure, weight and records initial complaints and refers patient to general Medical Officer for relevant action.
- Administers treatment to patients which include giving drugs, injections, IV treatment, suturing and dressing wounds, tepid sponging etc as instructed by General Medical Officer.
- Conducts HIV counselling and testing and administers treatment as prescribed by the General Medical Officer and books expectant/nursing mothers for PMTCT.
- Conducts ante-natal clinics for pregnant women giving them psychological and health talks and monitoring their pregnancies so as to ensure safe births and healthy babies.
- Escorts referred patients to other hospitals, attending to them while in transit especially with emergency cases which may entail resuscitation of patient, administering oxygen and so on.
- Sterilizes and cleans equipment after use to ensue items are always ready for use again and are germ free.
- Conducts health talks to individual women or groups of women with regard to nutrition, breastfeeding, traditional medicines and dangers inherent pregnancies and other subjects.
- Ensures that all patient medical records are properly secured and accounted.
- Performs any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Grade 12 school certificate with at least five credits that must include English language, Mathematics and Science or its equivalent
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Valid practising NMCZ license
- All academic qualifications and results must be Validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Experience needed
- At least three (3) years relevant experience in the medical field with exposure to HIV VCT and management vital.
