Job Objective
To provide independent oversight of the institution’s risk profile by designing, implementing, and enforcing the Enterprise Risk Management framework, ensuring that all material risks are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled within approved risk appetite, while supporting sustainable business growth, regulatory compliance and sustainability.
Primary Responsibilities
I. Risk Governance & Framework Development
- Develop, implement, and continuously enhance:
- Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF)
- Risk Appetite Statement (RAS)
- Risk policies, procedures, and standards
- Define risk taxonomy, methodologies, and reporting standards.
II. Enterprise Risk Oversight
- Provide independent oversight across all risk categories:
- Credit Risk – portfolio quality, concentration, underwriting standards as well as providing risk opinions on credit approval requests above assigned thresholds.
- Liquidity Risk – funding structure, cash concentration
- Market Risk – FX exposures, Interest Rate Risk
- Operational Risk – process failures, fraud, IT risks
- Challenge and provide risk input on: Business decisions, Growth strategies and New initiatives
III. Risk Analytics, KRIs & Dashboard Oversight
- Oversee development and implementation of:
- Integrated risk dashboards
- Key Risk Indicators (KRIs)
- Early Warning Indicators (EWIs)
- Competitor and Market Analysis
- Forward-looking insights
- Trend analysis
- Deterioration alerts
IV. Credit Risk Oversight
- Monitor portfolio performance, including:
- PAR, NPL ratios, Deterioration rates
- Write-offs and recoveries
- Credit limits
- Credit controls
- Provisioning methodologies
V. Liquidity & Financial Risk Management
- Oversee liquidity risk monitoring, including:
- Funding gaps
- Deposit concentration
- Cash positions
- Regulatory liquidity requirements
- Internal limits
- Lead liquidity stress testing and scenario analysis.
VI. Operational Risk & Incident Governance
- Establish and enforce: o Incident management framework
- Severity classification and escalation protocols
- Critical incidents are escalated to EXCO
- Root causes are identified and addressed
- Oversee fraud risk management and control improvements
- Provide a framework for Business Impact Assessments and Business Continuity Planning + testing.
VII. Stress Testing and scenario analysis
- Design and lead stress testing frameworks, including:
- Credit shocks
- Liquidity stress scenarios o Macroeconomic scenarios
- Capital adequacy assessment
- Risk quantification
VIII. Risk Reporting
- Prepare high-quality:
- Board Risk Reports
- Management Reports
- EXCO risk dashboards
- Forward-looking risk insights
- Strategic recommendations
- Drive automation and digitization of risk reporting.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate with credits in English and Mathematics.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., ZICA, ACCA, CPA, CFA, or Credit Management) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in credit risk management, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Experience in a Non-Bank Financial Institution (NBFI) or Microfinance environment is highly desirable.
- Advanced analytical skills, including financial modeling and data interpretation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
