About the Role: Safety Officer Position in Kitwe
As a Safety Officer within Metso’s PSE – Repairs team, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the health and safety of employees by supporting and enhancing occupational health and safety programs. Your efforts will ensure compliance with legislation and company standards, helping maintain safe, efficient, and smooth operations. Reporting to the SC Manager, you will collaborate closely with the QEHS department, management, auditors, and other stakeholders dedicated to a compliant and secure workplace.
Key Responsibilities for Safety Officer Jobs in Kitwe
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct workplace inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement.
- Promote safe work practices, workforce protection, and effective risk mitigation strategies.
- Review and update safety policies to ensure compliance with current legislation and industry standards.
- Participate in incident investigations and support workers’ compensation processes to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, safety performance, and workplace occurrences for management review.
- Organize and facilitate occupational health and safety training, fostering a proactive safety culture.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- General Certificate of Education (GCE) or equivalent.
- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or related field, including a recognized Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Relevant experience in health and safety within mining, engineering, manufacturing, or workshop environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Zambian Occupational Health and Safety Act 16 of 2024, related regulations, and labor legislation.
- Proven experience conducting safety audits, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for mining and heavy industrial operations.
- Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and report-writing skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Training in risk assessment, incident investigation, first aid, fire fighting, emergency response, and ISO 45001 OHS Management Systems.
- Experience in contractor management, permit-to-work systems, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and safety management information systems.
