Job Description

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Scaffolding and Rigging Assessor - LEP (Fixed Term Contract) to join the Project Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Senior Trainer - LEP, you will be responsible for assessing conducting competency-based assessments, evaluations, and certifications of scaffolders working within the expansion project. You will be also responsible for carrying out timely inspections.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assess and certify scaffolders in accordance with statutory requirements, company procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct on-the-job competency assessments, written tests, and practical evaluations of scaffold erection, modification, inspection, and dismantling.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and feedback to scaffolders to support skills development and safe work practices.
  • Maintain accurate assessment records, competency databases, and reports for compliance and audit purposes.
  • Liaise with supervisors, training department, and HSE team to ensure scaffolders meet competency standards before deployment.
  • Participate in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations relating to scaffolding.
  • Meet with clients to determine the needs and requirements for scaffolding access and be able to understand drawings for requirements.
  • Develop, review, and update assessment tools, training materials, and procedures in line with evolving industry standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across all scaffolding operations
  • Conduct thorough inspections of scaffolding and rigging materials, components, and structures to ensure compliance with health, safety, and industry standards.
  • Assess the condition, integrity, and suitability of scaffolding and rigging equipment before, during, and after use.
  • Identify faults, defects, and non-conformities in scaffolding and rigging equipment and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensuring that sufficient time is spent on each project to carry out a full inspection (and that clients’ demands for unnecessary additional time is resisted).
  • Ensure all team members have the correct and inspected PPE, Podger, lanyards and harnesses.
  • Support the development of scaffolders’ career progression pathways by identifying training needs and recommending upskilling programs.
  • Ensure integration of scaffolding safety with other trades and departments working in the project area

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade Twelve (12) School Certificate
  • Recognized qualification in Scaffolding e.g. Advanced Scaffolder Certificate or equivalent).
  • Certified Assessor accreditation
  • Minimum Three (3) years’ scaffolding experience in mining, heavy construction, or similar industrial environment.
  • Must be a TEVETA Accredited Trainer/ Assessor
  • Prior experience in competency-based training and assessment in a mining or project setting.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory requirements, mine regulations, and international scaffolding standards.
  • An advantage will be if the individual has a licence and can operate a forklift and/or a telehandler
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences effectively.
