The National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) is a government institution under the Ministry of Technology & Science, established by the Science and Technology Act (No 26) of 1997 through Statutory Instrument No 73 of 1998.
NISIR is looking for suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following positions:
Scientific Officer (Biotechnology), Chilanga
(3-year fixed term contract. Renewable, depending on performance)
Qualifications
- PhD in Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Organic Chemistry.
- Full Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
Technical Skills
- Strong background in plant physiology, molecular biology, or phytochemistry.
- Experience with analytical techniques relevant to your field.
- Knowledge of bioassays for evaluating the biological activity of natural products.
- Familiarity with tissue culture, genetics or metabolomics is an advantage.
Professional Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant research experience.
- Proven track record of publications.
- Experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary research projects.
The Job Purpose
To initiate and be responsible for research in their specific scientific field of expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, initiate, organise, and conduct scientific research studies.
- Collect, analyse, and interpret data in your specialised area.
- Adapt methods, techniques, and procedures to carry out assignments.
- Make independent decisions in their specific fields.
- Carry out national development-relevant scientific and/or industrial research in their area of specialisation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to explore industrial applications of your specialised area.
- Present research findings to stakeholders and at conferences to support the Centre’s mission by engaging in outreach and knowledge transfer.
- Develop and write high-quality scientific and/or industrial research project proposals in their area of specialisation.
- Contribute to grant writing proposals to secure research funding.
- Serve as advisors to other lower-level scientists conducting studies in their specific scientific fields of expertise.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant/applicable standards in all research activities.
