JOB PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant supports the Finance Manager in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring effective credit control. The role is central to upholding financial stewardship, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and supporting the School’s operational and strategic objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Credit Control
- Manage and oversee the School’s credit control function
- Monitor student fee accounts and follow up on outstanding balances
- Prepare aged debtor reports and recommend actions to minimise bad debts
- Liaise professionally with parents/guardians regarding fee matters
- Work closely with Admissions and Administration to ensure billing accuracy
General Ledger & Reconciliations
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner
- Reconcile statutory accounts in compliance with local regulatory requirements
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Support preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Prepare supporting schedules, variance analyses and reports
- Assist with audits and preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation
- Ensure adherence to internal financial controls and accounting policies
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CA Zambia, CIMA or equivalent)
- Valid ZICA membership is mandatory
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant accounting experience
- Strong experience in credit control, reconciliations and financial reporting
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- High attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to uphold the School’s fee policies with professionalism and firmness
