Lumumba Mining Company is seeking to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Senior Environmental Officer-Operations to join the versatile Environmental. team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading mine closure and rehabilitation planning and implementation, ensuring environmentally compliant operations, managing environmental risks, monitoring performance, coordinating stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement in rehabilitation and operational environmental practices.
Your Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
- Lead planning and implementation of mine closure and rehabilitation programs in line with approved Mine Closure Plans and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure operational activities comply with environmental permits, licenses, and environmental management plans.
- Oversee rehabilitation of disturbed areas, including landform reshaping, soil management, and revegetation.
- Monitor environmental aspects of operations, including waste management, tailings, water management, and biodiversity protection.
- Coordinate baseline, ongoing, and post-closure environmental monitoring and reporting.
- Support integration of closure and rehabilitation requirements into day-to-day operational planning.
- Manage contractors and consultants involved in rehabilitation, closure works, and environmental monitoring.
- Liaise with regulators, communities, and internal departments on mine closure and environmental performance.
- Identify environmental risks associated with operations and closure activities and implement mitigation measures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of operational environmental practices and progressive rehabilitation strategies.
- Ensuring environmental risks of tasks are assessed and mitigated.
- Adhering to environmental procedures to ensure good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes.
- Reporting all environmental incidents to supervisor after implementing immediate corrective action.
- Promoting environmentally sound work practices in peers and contractors.
- Actively champion site safety policies and drive the implementation of new initiatives or change management directives issued by the General Manager and leadership team.
- Promote a culture of safety by actively monitoring operations and rigorously enforcing personnel compliance with safe work practices and environmental standards.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Degree in Environmental Engineering, Mine Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
- Five (5) years direct experience in environmental management with a minimum of three (3) years in an industrial setting, including regulatory agency interactions.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Wide range of environmental data collection, management and statistical experience.
- Experience with various tools for mining reclamation costing methodologies an added advantage
- Strong scientific and technical knowledge of the principles related to mine rehabilitation and biodiversity including hydrological, ecology, meteorological, air quality and engineering theories.
- Professional and technical knowledge of the natural and physical environment.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental management System.
- High level computer skills with the ability to use mapping software, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
- Experience in the use of excel and other Microsoft packages.
- Have a Valid Zambian Driver license.
