The LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (LAMU) is a privately owned University, registered by the Higher Education Authority under the Higher Education Amendment Act No. 23 of 2021 to provide Higher Education in Medical Education. LAMU is regulated by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). Lusaka Apex Medical University is therefore looking for a mature, proactive, and highly motivated and result oriented Zambian with high degree of credibility to fill the following position:

Responsibilities or duties

Responsible for developing, managing and disseminating knowledge to undergraduate students and monitoring undergraduate programs in the department. This includes teaching and training, operational administration, undertaking and guiding research activities in one’s department as well as quality management and enhancement.

  • Prepares and participates in the preparation of departmental and faculty work plans to achieve objectives and programs.
  • Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/ review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation.
  • Ensure that operational processes such as timetabling and delivering lectures to undergraduate students are well coordinated, curriculum review, closely supervising clinical teaching such as bedside tutorials, student presentations, demonstrations of practical procedures and other practical work.
  • Postgraduate curriculum review for Masters in Biochemistry
  • Mentoring and training Junior lecturers and tutors and participates in the preparation and conduction of practical and written examinations in the course taught.
  • Marks students’ examinations paper compiles continuous assessment and final examination results and presents to the board of studies.
  • Undertake and contribute to research, conducting individual research or collaborating with others
  • Supervise and guide undergraduate studies in their research projects.
  • Assessing the research and development requirements of the department through consultation with Head of Department and others on matters relating to research.
  • Writes scholarly materials/papers arising out of research and other studies for publication and/or dissemination through various fora.
  • Presenting papers /materials at seminars, workshops, conferences and participates in conferences both locally and internationally.
  • Carries out field training such as clinical work, evening classes, in-service and post graduate supervision. (Only PhD holders should supervise postgraduate students).
  • Participates and contributes to Departmental meetings and other meetings assigned or appointed to.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Full Grade 12 school certificate or its equivalent
  • Bachelor of Science in Bio-chemistry.
  • Master of Science in Biochemistry
  • PhD in Biochemistry.
  • All academic qualifications and results must be Validated by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Experience needed

  • 10 years of academic experience at Lecturer level at reputable University.
  • Research and Teaching methodology training.
  • Administrative experience as an added advantage
