About the Shift Boss Mining Production Role
The Shift Boss will oversee daily mining production activities, coordinating teams and resources to optimize operational performance. This role demands strong leadership and a commitment to safety and quality standards within a demanding mining environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign and supervise shift tasks to ensure execution of approved production plans.
- Monitor production output, equipment utilization, haul routes, and stockpile management.
- Enforce compliance with safety standards, mine regulations, and operating procedures.
- Identify and resolve hazards, delays, equipment limitations, and non-compliance issues promptly.
- Supervise operators, crews, and contractors, providing constructive performance feedback.
- Prepare detailed shift reports and facilitate effective shift handovers.
- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance safety, productivity, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Diploma or Degree in Mining Engineering, Mine Operations, or related fields is preferred.
- Supervisory or frontline leadership training is an advantage.
- Professional registration or eligibility with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is beneficial.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in mining operations or production supervision.
- Preferred 1–2 years’ experience supervising crews, operators, or contractors.
- Proven experience in enforcing safety standards, coordinating equipment, shift reporting, and incident management.
- Experience in open-cast coal mining and managing contractors is advantageous.
