PURPOSE

This critical leadership role is accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient construction of the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at FQM Kansanshi Mining Plc (KMP). It requires a combination of operational leadership and technical focus, blending civil engineering expertise with a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility. The successful candidate will champion best practices, oversee complex construction projects, and safeguard both structural integrity and environmental compliance, consistently upholding the highest industry standards.

As the accountable site execution leader, the Construction Superintendent – TSF is responsible for delivering construction activities across multiple high-risk, complex tailings storage facilities. The role emphasizes practical, efficient, and cost-effective execution of works, strictly aligned with approved designs, specifications, and engineering intent. While not providing technical design direction, the incumbent plays a pivotal role in challenging constructability, identifying risks, and collaborating with subject matter experts and engineers to ensure safe, achievable outcomes.

Success in this position requires strong situational awareness, the ability to manage complexity, and the confidence to step back from detailed issues to develop clear, workable solutions under pressure.

The role reports to the TSF Manager and works closely with the Technical Superintendent to develop, discuss, and implement technical solutions.

  • Constructively challenge design decisions when execution risks are identified, while recognising established technical authority boundaries.

Role clarity – Execution vs Technical boundaries

  • Operate within the execution/implementation role, ensuring adherence to approved technical guidelines.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts when clarification, technical instructions, decisions, or design changes are required.
  • Act as the bridge between design and execution, ensuring that plans are practical and achievable on site
