About the Role: Technical Coach Electrical Jobs in Solwezi
In this full-time position, you will play a pivotal role in coaching and developing electrical artisans and technicians within our engineering department. You will lead by example, fostering a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence at the Kansanshi Smelter operations. Your expertise will ensure adherence to electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures while supporting fault diagnosis and minimizing downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, finance, and HR policies and legal regulations applicable to the role.
- Deliver on-the-job coaching and structured training sessions tailored to identified skill gaps, collaborating closely with the KMP Training Department.
- Develop training materials and use coaching methodologies to create a continuous learning environment.
- Provide visible leadership on the operational floor, championing quality and safety standards.
- Support fault diagnosis and corrective actions to reduce equipment downtime.
- Engage learners effectively using assessments and observations to identify skill gaps and implement impactful interventions.
- Design and complete assessments aligned with the Proficiency Framework and act as an independent assessor for other First Quantum operations.
- Identify and mentor high-potential artisans, supporting their progression to senior roles.
- Maintain accurate records of coaching activities and learner progress using company learning management tools.
- Provide constructive feedback to supervisors and contribute to building a coaching culture throughout the organization.
- Collaborate with supervisory staff and HR to align coaching initiatives with organizational goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 (G12) school certificate.
- Technician Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
- Relevant local qualifications such as HV Switching and a valid EIZ license.
- 3 to 5 years of demonstrable coaching experience or formal coaching certification, with proven ability to implement workforce upskilling programs.
- 10 to 15 years of maintenance experience in fixed plant maintenance within mineral processing operations, including 3 to 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge across all process plant sections including Filter Plant, Material Handling, Oxygen Plant, Acid Plant, and others.
- Proficiency in electrical and instrumentation diagnostics, maintenance, and repair, including testing and programming of various electrical controllers and devices.
- Experience with condition monitoring tools, SCADA systems, and fault analysis software such as ETAP.
- Familiarity with maintenance reliability processes including FMECA, RCM, and Root Cause Analysis.
- Strong computer skills with MS Office and experience using computerized maintenance management systems (Pronto preferred) and learning management systems.
