About the Role

As a Technical Coach at First Quantum Minerals, you will play a pivotal role in developing artisan and tradesmen capabilities through targeted on-the-job coaching and structured training programs. You will foster a continuous learning culture within the engineering department, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and compliance standards while supporting operational excellence at the Kansanshi Smelter.

Key Responsibilities for Technical Coach Jobs in Solwezi

  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, finance, and HR policies, as well as engineering codes and company procedures.
  • Coaching and Training: Deliver practical on-the-job coaching and formal training modules developed in collaboration with the KMP Training Department to address identified skill gaps.
  • Technical Oversight: Model best practices, lead visible quality initiatives on-site, and support fault diagnosis to reduce downtime through coaching.
  • Learner Engagement and Assessment: Use effective communication and assessment techniques to identify skill gaps, design interventions, and monitor progress using company learning management tools.
  • Leadership and Culture: Promote a coaching culture, provide constructive feedback to supervisors, celebrate team achievements, and align coaching efforts with organizational goals.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 (G12) certificate and a Technician Certificate in a relevant mechanical or furnace refractory trade, certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
  • Valid EIZ license.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven coaching experience or formal coaching certification, with a strong track record in workforce upskilling and mentoring artisans.
  • 10 to 15 years of maintenance experience in fixed plant maintenance within mineral processing, including 3 to 5 years in supervisory roles; smelter plant experience is advantageous.
  • Supervisory experience in furnace refractories, scaffolding, lagging and cladding, or boiler-making, with expertise in inspection, maintenance, and repair solutions.
  • Familiarity with maintenance reliability processes (e.g., five whys, FMECA, RCAs, MTBF, MTTR) and technical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., PRONTO), MS Office, and learning management systems (LMS).
