Role Overview and Responsibilities
The Technical Coach Mechanical Fitting will play a pivotal role in enhancing the skills and capabilities of fitting artisans and technicians within our engineering department. This position demands adherence to stringent compliance and governance standards, including health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations, alongside company policies.
Responsibilities or duties
- Ensure strict compliance with mechanical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Deliver on-the-job coaching and structured training sessions tailored to identified skills gaps.
- Develop and prepare training materials in collaboration with the KMP Training Department.
- Provide visible leadership on-site, championing quality and continuous learning in the Kansanshi Smelter operations.
- Support fault diagnosis and corrective actions to reduce downtime through effective coaching.
- Engage learners using assertive communication and support their development through assessments and tailored interventions.
- Design and conduct assessments aligned with the First Quantum Minerals Proficiency Framework, acting as an independent assessor across sites.
- Identify and nurture high-potential artisans, supporting their progression into senior roles.
- Maintain detailed records of coaching interventions and evaluate their impact, collaborating closely with the training department to refine learning programs.
- Foster a coaching culture by providing feedback to supervisors and collaborating with HR to align coaching initiatives with organizational goals.
- Recognize team achievements and lead with a People First mindset, promoting engagement at all levels.
Qualifications and Experience Required for Technical Coach Mechanical Fitting Jobs in Solwezi
Candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria to be considered for this full-time role:
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Full Grade 12 (G12) school certificate.
- Technician Certificate in Mechanical Fitting or an equivalent trade qualification.
- Degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
- Registration with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) for local applicants.
- Certification of all qualifications by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Experience needed
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable coaching experience or formal coaching certification, with a proven track record in workforce upskilling and fostering a continuous learning environment.
- At least 10 years of maintenance experience in a fixed plant mineral processing operation, including 3 to 5 years in a supervisory capacity; smelter experience is a plus.
- Comprehensive knowledge of safety practices in process and mining environments.
- Technical expertise in maintenance of centrifugal, vertical spindle, peristaltic, gear, and screw pumps; hydraulic and pneumatic systems; bolting and torque techniques; bearing installation and maintenance; drive systems; compressors and blowers; precision measurement; pipe and flange installation; gearbox and conveyor belt maintenance; and structured technical troubleshooting.
- Experience with reliability maintenance processes and KPIs such as RCAs, MTBF, MTTR, and FMECA.
- Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., PRONTO), MS Office applications, and learning management systems (LMS).
