Background
Usangu Logistics Zambia is a leading transporter of high value cargo across Central and Southern Africa, specializing in the secure movement of all kinds of cargo. We are currently seeking a highly diligent, procedure oriented, and security focused professional to join our team as a Tracking Officer.
This role is the nerve center of our operations and is responsible for enforcing strict company safety and security mandates across our international fleet.
Position: Tracking Officer
Reporting To: Head of Tracking Department
Work Schedule: Shift-based operations (24/7 coverage required)
Key Responsibilities (Non-Negotiable)
The Control Room Operator is the primary guardian of our assets and must strictly enforce all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), especially during high-risk transit.
1. Safety & Fatigue Compliance (SOP-11)
- Monitor driver movements against the mandatory rest break protocol (15 minutes/200km or 30 minutes/400km).
- Validate all rest break logs using timestamped odometer photos provided by drivers.
- Audit driver working hours and issue mandatory instructions for long rest periods when the 10-hour driving limit is approached.
2. Security Protocol Enforcement (SOP-12)
- Strictly enforce the Night Driving Prohibition (18:00 CAT to 06:00 CAT).
- Immediately flag and query any unauthorized movement during prohibited hours.
- Process and log all formal Night Movement Authorization (NMAF) forms issued by the Head of Tracking.
3. Real-Time Tracking & Asset Management
- Maintain continuous, real-time GPS surveillance of the entire fleet (DRC, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa, Tanzania).
- Issue immediate "Code Orange" alerts and contact drivers or escort teams upon any deviation from approved routes, unauthorized stops in high-risk zones, or communication blackouts.
- Provide physical location support to the Road Patrol teams during security interventions and escorts.
4. Escort & Security Coordination
- Liaise directly with external security providers and internal Road Patrol teams in DRC, Zambia and Tanzania.
- Manage communications during high-risk periods (e.g., border holds at Kasumbalesa, riots or civil unrest).
5. Data Logging & Compliance
- Accurately log all trip statistics including total moving time, stationary time, and total duration into the Fleet Master Sheet upon trip completion.
- Maintain detailed records of all security incidents, compliance breaches, and corrective actions taken according to SOP.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Minimum Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, IT, or a related field.
Experience: Proven experience (2+ years) in a fast-paced tracking, dispatch, or logistics control room, ideally within the high-value cargo transport sector.
Technical: High proficiency in GPS tracking platforms (experience with GPRS/Fleet Management Systems is essential). Excellent Excel and data logging skills.
Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail, strong geographical knowledge of Southern and Central Africa, ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure, and impeccable integrity.
Communication: Fluent in English (written and spoken); knowledge of relevant regional languages is an advantage.
