Background

Help lay the foundations for stronger, more inclusive democracy in Zambia.

Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is seeking an exceptional individual contractor or organisation to help shape the next chapter of our work in Zambia.

Across the world, WFD works with partners to strengthen democratic institutions, support inclusive political participation, and help build accountable systems that serve people fairly and effectively. This assignment offers a rare opportunity to bring that mission to life in Zambia: building relationships, identifying where WFD can add most value, and helping create the conditions for future programmes with lasting impact.

The opportunity

Working closely with WFD colleagues in London and the region, the Representative will be a trusted bridge between WFD and Zambia’s democracy and governance community. The role will focus on listening, connecting and convening: understanding the local context, opening doors to meaningful partnerships, and helping WFD identify practical ways to support democratic resilience, inclusion and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Identify credible, high-impact entry points for WFD in Zambia where our expertise can complement existing initiatives and support democracy, governance and inclusion.
  • Represent WFD with integrity, credibility and political neutrality, helping build trust and visibility across the governance sector.
  • Design and deliver targeted activities that spark dialogue, showcase WFD’s expertise, and demonstrate how WFD can contribute to Zambia’s democratic development.
  • Build and nurture partnerships with organisations and individuals who share WFD’s commitment to open, inclusive, representative and accountable political systems.
  • Explore funding opportunities with donors, development partners, civil society organisations and other stakeholders committed to democratic progress.
  • Provide practical, informed advice on the steps required to establish WFD’s proposed presence in Zambia.

About you

We are looking for a respected, Zambia-based consultant or organisation who can combine strategic judgement with deep local understanding and trusted networks.

You will bring substantial first-hand experience, ideally around 10 years or more, in governance, democracy, political participation, public policy, parliamentary strengthening, accountability, human rights, inclusion or a related field in Zambia.

You will be confident engaging senior stakeholders across government, parliament, political parties, development partners and civil society, and able to represent WFD’s mission and values with clarity, diplomacy and political neutrality.

Experience working with international teams and organisations, including donors, INGOs and multilaterals, would be highly advantageous.

Above all, you will bring the relationships, insight and credibility needed to help WFD build a thoughtful, locally grounded and sustainable presence in Zambia.
