Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Valid Class B driver’s license.
  • A valid Heavy Duty Vehicle Driver’s license will be advantageous.
  • Relevant Grade 12 certificate with Mathematic literacy and physical science; or technical school qualification;
  • Basic knowledge of truck and trailers electrical systems, hydraulics, suspensions, and air brakes.
  • Team player with high-performance standards;

  • Energetic, determined and highly capable with strong learning qualities; and
  • Good general- and physical health.
  • Strict compliance with the Company’s policies, procedures and standards regarding Health & Safety, housekeeping, training & development to facilitate mentoring and coaching of apprentices.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in trailer repair and servicing
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Shacman truck service and repairs.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Must have control over workshop
  • Ensure that housekeeping is done on a daily basis
  • Handle all work in process in trailer repair workshop
  • To ensure work is completed in the quoted hours and delivery date as per quota on and as per agreed on with client
  • Compiling of daily, weekly, monthly reports
  • Evaluation of damaged trailers
  • Quality control on the work being done throughout repair
  • Daily liaising with stores to ensure proper material planning
  • Evaluate the skills level of the production team
  • Provide additional training to team where needed
  • Must be able to manage labor hours on a daily basis as well as overtime
  • Quality mechanical preventative maintenance and repair on fleet assets and / or equipment.
  • Provide technical assistance to workshop technicians, technical trainees and / or apprentices and liaise with management and co-personnel.
  • Final check and test driving on all trucks, trailers, and equipment before release.
  • Attending to breakdowns and callouts.
  • Report daily to management on complex issues that will substantially alter the outcome of timeframes and conflicts arising in the course of duties and matters and in general on any aspect which may have a bearing on the projected operations and expenditures.
  • Ad-hoc projects to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
