Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Construction Superintendent TSF – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Lumwana Expansion Project Team. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Construction Lead – LEP, you will be responsible for executing the construction of the Tailings Storage Facility and Water Storage Facilities (TSF/WSF), and that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.
The TSF planned for the Lumwana Expansion will increase the current storage to 2 billion tonnes of tailings and will be among the largest tailings storage facilities globally. It will be constructed and raised significantly over the coming years and presents an exciting opportunity to be involved with a large TSF construction on a world-class project.
Responsibilities or duties
- Assisting in daily operations on the construction site, coordinating between various trades and subcontractors to ensure smooth progression of work.
- Supervise and coordinate daily construction activities to ensure safe, efficient, and quality project execution.
- Manage contractors, subcontractors, and construction teams to ensure compliance with project schedules, specifications, contractual requirements, safety standards, quality requirements, and productivity targets, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Supervise multi-disciplinary construction activities including TSF and WSF works, and associated infrastructure.
- Monitor construction progress, budgets, productivity, resource utilization, risks, and constraints, and implement corrective actions to achieve project milestones and cost-effective project execution.
- Ensure compliance with all HSE requirements, site procedures, permit systems, and environmental standards.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, method statements, and work plans to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved requirements.
- Coordinate construction interfaces between contractors, operations, engineering, procurement, commissioning teams, surveyors, and quality personnel.
- Ensure effective implementation of quality assurance and quality control requirements, including inspections, testing, punch listing, defect management, commissioning, handover, and close-out activities.
- Maintain accurate construction records, daily reports, progress tracking, and project documentation.
- Participate in construction progress meetings and provide regular updates on safety, quality, schedule, and project performance.
Qualifications or requirements
Experience needed
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
- Minimum of a Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in mining project execution, with at least 4 years’ experience in the construction and delivery of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), Water Storage Facilities (WSF), large
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar
- Proven experience supervising contractors, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary construction teams.
- Demonstrated experience in the construction and delivery of TSF/WSF projects, housing developments, accommodation facilities, bulk earthworks, roads, utilities, water management infrastructure, and supporting mine infrastructure projects.
- Hydraulic and geotechnical engineering components related to Tailing’s Storage Facilities
- Numerous complex mining projects and implementation and coordination of the alignment to the newly published “Global Industry Standards on Tailings Management”
- Think methodically and to manage projects at the TSF
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
