About the job
The Procurement Executive is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing supplies required for farm operations. This includes agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, equipment, machinery, and services. The role ensures cost-effective purchasing, timely delivery, and quality compliance while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Sourcing
- Identify and source reliable suppliers for agricultural inputs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, farm equipment, irrigation systems, etc.)
- Conduct price comparisons and negotiate favorable terms and contracts
- Issue purchase orders and track deliveries to ensure timely supply
Vendor Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, pricing, and delivery timelines
- Build a preferred supplier network for long-term procurement efficiency
Inventory & Demand Planning
- Coordinate with farm operations teams to forecast procurement needs
- Monitor inventory levels to avoid shortages or excess stock
- Ensure timely replenishment of critical farming inputs
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all purchased materials meet required agricultural standards and specifications
- Verify certifications and regulatory compliance for seeds, chemicals, and equipment
- Maintain procurement documentation and audit trails
Cost Control
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
- Monitor market trends for agricultural commodities and inputs
- Prepare procurement reports and analyze spend patterns
Logistics Coordination
- Work closely with logistics teams to ensure smooth transportation and delivery
- Resolve any issues relating to delays, damaged goods, or incorrect deliveries
Qualifications & Skills
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, Business Administration, or a related field
Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in procurement, preferably in agriculture, farming, or agribusiness
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of agricultural products and farm supply chains
- Familiarity with procurement software (SAP skills preferred)
- Strong MS Excel and reporting skills
Key Competencies
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Analytical thinking and cost management
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, seasonal environment
- Good communication and coordination abilities
Preferred Requirements
- Experience working in large-scale farms, agribusiness, or food production companies
- Understanding of seasonal crop cycles and input requirements
- Knowledge of local agricultural markets and suppliers
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Cost savings achieved in procurement
- Supplier performance and reliability
- Inventory turnover and stock availability
- Timely delivery and order fulfillment rate
- Compliance with quality and regulatory standards
Working Conditions
- May require occasional visits to farms, supplier sites, or markets
- Some travel may be required depending on supplier base
