Background

African Parks (AP) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Tourism Operations Supervisor to oversee and coordinate tourism services within Kafue National Park. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality visitor experiences while maintaining strong alignment with conservation objectives and operational standards.

Job Summary

The Tourism Operations Supervisor is responsible for the effective coordination and management of all tourism-related services within the park to ensure a safe, high-quality, and memorable visitor experience. The role supports the delivery of conservation-based tourism by maintaining high operational standards, supervising staff, and ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and organisational requirements.

The position plays a key role in ensuring that all tourism facilities, systems, and services meet international standards of excellence and are aligned with African Parks Network Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all tourism operations, facilities, and systems to ensure efficiency and high service standards.
  • Manage visitor services, including handling inquiries, feedback, and complaints to enhance overall guest satisfaction.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support staff, including scheduling, recruitment, training, and performance management in line with organisational policies.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and park regulations for staff and visitors.
  • Monitor the condition of tourism infrastructure, tools, and equipment, ensuring timely maintenance and reporting of faults.
  • Collect, analyse, and report on operational data to support planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement.
  • Support marketing initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and the promotion of the park’s tourism products.
  • Assist in budgeting processes, revenue collection, and maintaining financial accountability within tourism operations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tourism Management, Conservation, Environmental Management, Business Administration, or a related field from a reputable and accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience in tourism management, preferably within a protected area or the tourism and hospitality sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff supervision and delivering high standards of customer service.

Competencies and Skills

  • Valid driver’s licence with no restrictions.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications and online marketing platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Proven leadership and people management capabilities, with experience working in multicultural environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Strong report writing and administrative skills.
  • Good understanding of the tourism sector in Zambia and the Southern African region.
  • Sound knowledge of sustainable tourism practices and conservation principles.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Working Conditions

  • The role involves both office-based work and field operations in remote outdoor environments.
  • Requires flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and respond to emergencies when necessary.
  • May involve physically demanding tasks, including travel on rough terrain and exposure to varying weather conditions.
