Role Purpose

The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic, and well-presented environment across all Shayna Deyne Group premises — including the Curtain Factory production floor, the Deyne Interiors showroom, office areas, and client-facing spaces. This role directly contributes to the professional image of the company and the wellbeing of all staff and visitors.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Daily Cleaning — Factory & Production Area

  • Sweep, mop, and maintain cleanliness of the production floor at the start and end of each working day
  • Remove fabric offcuts, thread, and production waste from workstations and floor areas throughout the day
  • Empty and dispose of all waste bins daily — ensuring waste is segregated correctly where applicable
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms and toilet facilities — minimum twice daily
  • Wipe down machinery exteriors, workbenches, and surfaces — using appropriate cleaning products
  • Keep storage areas, passageways, and emergency exits clear of clutter and obstruction at all times

Showroom & Client-Facing Areas

  • Ensure the Deyne Interiors showroom is cleaned before opening each day — floors, glass surfaces, display areas, and reception
  • Maintain spotless presentation of all client-facing areas throughout operating hours
  • Clean windows, glass doors, and display cabinets regularly
  • Immediately address any spillages, marks, or cleanliness issues in visible client areas
  • Polish and dust all furniture, shelving, and décor items in the showroom

Office & Common Areas

  • Clean all office areas, desks (without disturbing documents), and common spaces daily
  • Clean and sanitize the kitchen or staff break area — including surfaces, sink, and appliances
  • Ensure all rubbish is removed from office spaces at the end of each working day
  • Replenish toilet paper, soap, and hand sanitizer — notify Admin when supplies are running low

Cleaning Standards & Safety

  • Use all cleaning products correctly and safely — following label instructions
  • Store all cleaning chemicals securely and away from food areas and production materials
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) — gloves and appropriate footwear — when cleaning
  • Report any maintenance issues — broken fixtures, leaks, electrical faults — to the Admin Officer immediately
  • Never use production equipment, fabric, or materials for cleaning purposes

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

  • All designated areas cleaned to the required standard daily — verified by Admin Officer
  • Showroom and client-facing areas ready and presented before opening each business day
  • Bathrooms cleaned minimum twice daily — no complaints from staff or clients
  • Zero cleanliness-related client complaints
  • Cleaning supplies replenished proactively — no shortages causing operational disruption
  • Maintenance issues reported on the same day they are identified
  • Attendance and punctuality — present and on time for every scheduled shift

Role Requirements

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Zambia School Certificate (Grade 9 minimum) preferred but not mandatory
  • Ability to understand basic written and verbal instructions

Experience Required

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a cleaning, housekeeping, or facilities role
  • Experience in a commercial or retail environment advantageous
  • Familiarity with commercial cleaning products and equipment

Skills & Competencies

  • Thorough and detail-oriented — no area is too small to be overlooked
  • Knowledge of appropriate cleaning products for different surfaces
  • Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks across multiple areas
  • Understanding of basic hygiene and sanitation standards

Personal Attributes

  • Reliable and punctual — the daily opening of the showroom and factory depends on this role
