Job Purpose:
To provide technical support in the planning, preparation, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and experiments related to renewable energy technologies.
Main Duties and Accountabilities:
- Prepare, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment used in renewable energy experiments;
- Support the School and students during laboratory practicals, fieldwork and applied research;
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety, health and environmental regulations;
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory inventory, supplies and experiment results;
- Assist in the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of renewable energy systems (solar, biomass and hybrid technologies);
- Assist in the development and modification of experimental setups for teaching and research;
- Provide training and technical guidance to students on the correct use of lab equipment and materials;
- Participate in outreach, demonstrations and exhibitions related to renewable energy technologies;
- Participate in the development of prototypes and pilot systems for renewable energy applications;
- Ensure proper waste management and laboratory hygiene; and
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications And Experience:
- Grade 12 or Form V Certificate (or its equivalent) with 5 “0” levels including English Language and Mathematics;
- Diploma in Laboratory Technology with Specialisation in Analytical and Industrial Chemistry;
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage; and
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience, including hands-on experience in biomass conversion technologies, bioenergy, and biomass characterization.
Required Competencies and Behavioral Attributes:
- Proficient in biological and microbiological techniques;
- Knowledge of biomass conversion techniques – pyrolysis, fermentation, anaerobic digestion;
- Ability to use softwares for data handling (e.g. R / RStudio);
- Proficient in sample preparation, biomass analysis, and enzymatic assays;
- Knowledge of Zambia’s energy landscape and sustainability goals;
- Commitment to innovation, safety and continuous learning;
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and data logging tools;
- Passion for renewable energy and its role in sustainable development;
- Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team;
- Strong communication skills; and
- Good interpersonal skills.
Reporting Relationships:
- Immediate Supervisor: Head of Department
- Salary Scale: PSS06
