Job Summary

The position is responsible for the day-to-day management and care of pigs.

Responsibilities
• Plans and implements breeding programs. Monitors herd health, including checking regularly for ill or injured animals and keeping up to date on vaccinations and deworming, keeping records on herd health management, feeding and feed purchases.
• Monitors and maintains a grazing management schedule and monitors pasture quality during grazing season.
• Ensures welfare standards are met for herd by keeping with the five freedoms: food and water, absence of pain, social activity, ensure good health, and freedom of movement.
• Implements new technology which minimizes cost and enhances yield
• Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in care and movement of livestock in the farm. Assigns workers to feed, weigh and transfer livestock.
• Examines livestock to determine effectiveness of disease and injury control and instructs workers to take corrective action to rectify deficiencies.
• Observes condition of stockyard structures and equipment and arranges for needed maintenance and repairs.
• Keeps records on the movements of all livestock in to and out from the farm
