We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tomato Agronomist to lead and manage all aspects of our large-scale tomato cultivation projects. The role involves overseeing field preparation, crop management, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, with a strong emphasis on maximizing yield, improving quality, and meeting both local and export market requirements.
The successful candidate will also contribute to sustainable farming practices, including soil fertility management, efficient water use, and integration of environmentally friendly production systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Tomato Production Management
- Develop and implement end-to-end cultivation plans for large-scale tomato fields.
- Supervise land preparation, seedling propagation, transplanting, irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and harvesting.
- Monitor crop health and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
- Train and supervise farm workers and technical staff to ensure adherence to production protocols.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards for fresh market and processing-grade tomatoes, including export certifications where applicable.
- Collect, analyze, and report data on crop yields, field performance, and recommend improvements for efficiency and productivity.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing large-scale tomato or horticultural crop production.
- Strong understanding of tomato nutrient requirements, soil fertility, and crop protection.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, greenhouse production, and precision agriculture techniques is an added advantage.
- Proven experience in agricultural project planning, budgeting, and team leadership.
- Familiarity with post-harvest handling, storage, and market preparation of tomatoes.
