Background
NICO Insurance Zambia Limited, a general insurance company, has been operating in Zambia since 1st October 1997 and has branches in Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Livingstone and Chipata. NICO Insurance Zambia Limited is a member of the NICO Group of Companies operating in Malawi.
The Company is seeking to identify a suitably qualified and experienced individual to be engaged as:
BRANCH MANAGER – KITWE
Main Purpose of the Job
To oversee Branch operations by coordinating underwriting and claims activities in line with Company strategies, policies, and procedures, while driving business growth, profitability, and strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other stakeholders.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive business development initiatives to grow the branch portfolio and achieve premium and profitability targets.
- Build, manage, and strengthen relationships with brokers, clients, and other key stakeholders to support retention and acquisition of business.
- Follow up on broker instructions relating to renewals, new business, and premium alterations in a timely manner.
- Ensure effective implementation of underwriting and claims plans aligned to Company strategy and agreed targets.
- Monitor premium collection, ensuring that business written is profitable and collectible.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation including quotations, endorsements, and policy issuance in line with turnaround standards.
- Oversee reinsurance processes, including verification of reinsurance calculations and facultative placements (knowledge of reinsurance is essential/advantage).
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and periodic branch performance reports.
- Resolve client complaints and ensure adherence to service level agreements and customer experience standards.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the Premium Payment Directive and reinsurance placement guidelines.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to branch staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- First degree in Business Administration, Insurance, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Chartered Insurance qualification (ACII or equivalent) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in general insurance, underwriting, or branch operations.
- Proven experience in business development and relationship management within the insurance sector.
- Experience working with brokers and corporate clients is essential.
- Knowledge of reinsurance practices and processes will be an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Self-starter and highly motivated
- Strong business development and sales orientation.
- Ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with brokers and clients.
- Good understanding of underwriting, claims management, reinsurance, and insurance operations.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and decision-making skills.
- Leadership and people management capability.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
