Yalelo Zambia is seeking a Construction Supervisor for a full-time, onsite contract position in Siavonga.

Responsibilities or duties

Construction Supervision and Coordination

  • Supervising and coordinating daily construction activities to ensure work is completed according to approved drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Allocating tasks, monitoring productivity, and providing guidance to subordinates and site personnel.
  • Monitoring project progress against work plans and reporting delays, risks, or deviations to the Assistant Project Manager.
  • Coordinating with internal departments and relevant site teams to ensure smooth project implementation.

Quality Control and Inspection

  • Inspecting ongoing construction works and verifying the quality of materials, workmanship, and completed structures.
  • Ensuring construction works comply with required standards, company policies, approved drawings, specifications, and statutory requirements.
  • Identifying construction quality issues and ensuring appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Promoting continuous improvement in construction practices, quality standards, and site productivity.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Enforcing health, safety, and environmental (HSE) requirements on all construction sites.
  • Conducting daily toolbox talks and ensuring workers use the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Investigating and reporting site incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintaining a safe and compliant working environment throughout construction activities.

Materials, Resources and Cost Control

  • Monitoring material usage and preventing wastage through proper storage and accountability measures.
  • Monitoring workforce productivity and ensuring resources are effectively allocated.
  • Identifying construction challenges and proposing practical solutions to minimize delays and cost overruns.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintaining accurate site records, including daily progress reports, site instructions, inspection reports, and attendance time sheets.
  • Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly construction progress reports.
  • Ensuring required site documentation and reports are completed and submitted on time.

Teamwork and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Coordinating effectively with site support, fabrication, hatchery, processing, health and safety, production, logistics, and maintenance teams.
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Providing effective communication and maintaining positive working relationships with site personnel and other stakeholders.

Qualifications or requirements 

Must have skills

  • Knowledge of basic construction methods, materials, and engineering principles related to civil projects.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and project schedules.
  • Knowledge of construction quality assurance and quality control requirements.
  • Strong site supervision and workforce management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills.

Good to have skills

  • Attention to detail and a highly ethical approach to work.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing site conditions and maintain focus on project objectives.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Grade Twelve (12) Certificate.
  • A certificate in Construction Management or related field.
  • Training in Construction Management or any related field will be an added advantage.

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience in a supervisory role in construction or civil-related projects.
  • Experience coordinating external and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in site supervision, workforce management, construction inspection, and quality verification.
