Main Purpose
Responsible for delivering successful projects for Row Crops in terms of safety, compliance, cost, quality and schedule. Although this person has a discipline expertise in E&I and Automation, he/she is responsible for full project execution and project coordination, working with Bayer colleagues and third parties. As a discipline Engineer Instrumentation and Automation supports the site in daily operations and trouble-shooting
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
As a Project Manager he/she:
- Executes capital projects in a range from 10k€-1m€, this can be one big project or multiple smaller projects at the same time
- Provides complete engineering solutions and designs across multiple engineering disciplines, including mechanical, civil, structural, process, E&I and automation.
- Handles all aspects as part of the project: feasibility analysis, definition of scope together with site stakeholders, socializing, cost estimation & budgeting, forecasting, approval, building a project team when needed, leveling resources, detailed engineering and design, scheduling, construction, commissioning and handover to the local operational team.
- Ensures understanding and compliance of local requirements and bring those in line with company engineering, HSE, project financial and other standards and practices.
- Understands, explains and promotes project governance standards with the local teams. Drives execution along these same standards by his own project team.
- Builds a project team with a combination of Bayer employees - local and other internal stakeholders – and contractors to deliver the project within the agreed limits of scope, schedule and budget, safe and compliant. He/she is the Bayer face of the project to the outside world
- These projects are happening on all EMEA Row Crop sites in Eastern Africa with focus on Itaba site. Travel to other sites in Eastern Africa will be required. Can be up to 50% of time - depending on project needs and business growth in countries.
As an Electrical & Instrumentation & Automation discipline Engineer he/she:
- Reviews all projects with regard to this discipline, regardless who is the project owner
- Supports the site with his/her knowledge for daily supporting and trouble-shooting
- Liaises with third party providers and contractors in this field of expertise
- Provides technical input into project requirement specifications, performance and acceptance criteria
- Support during project execution and commissioning. Provide technical expertise to installation contractors
- Attend and sign-off factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests
As a main contributor in the Seed Engineering world she/he demonstrates VACC behaviors:
- Secure a solid business & personal link between engineering, the Seed sites and Third Parties to develop investment strategies, prioritize, plan, and execute capital investments, and providing inputs for the site’s CAPEX plan
- Apply a sound and constant focus on ESH processes during design and project execution.
- Promote a pro-active, preventative and caring culture for safety amongst all personnel, contractors and visitors.
- Strong team leader skills to ensure a well functioning engineering team as part of the EMEA Engineering group.
- Be a mentor and transfer knowledge to Bayer sites in EMEA.
- Seek continuous own growth opportunities and stay connected to engineering developments in the industry.

- Part of the CS-EMEA Seeds Engineering cluster.
- Well connected to Row Crop Seed Operations.
- Supporting functions (PS, IT, HSE, Security, Finance, Procurement, Legal, SPI-QA/PR and SCM).

Qualifications & Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering. Master in Engineering advantageous.
- Experience in designing and commissioning plant automation systems required.
- Fluent in English and technical writing.
- 10 years of solid experience in engineering industry (3-5 years as project manager).
- Experience in seed operations or maintenance roles is welcomed
- Experience with CAD design (3D modeling, 2D, Revit, BIM, design tools, etc.).
- Project management tools, Data management tools.
- High ethical standard.
- Results driven, autonomy and self-start
